About Us

JSF is based in Tongland near the small fishing town of Kirkcudbright and was originally founded by the late James Smith in 1950. Carrying out fencing and general agricultural construction work, the company successfully traded this way for about 30 years employing only five or six people.

Today the company is owned by Ian Smith, son of the late James Smith, and his wife Lee. Joining the company in 1978, Ian worked for 12 years as a fencer gaining invaluable trade knowledge and experience before gradually expanding JSF into one of the largest fencing suppliers in the country.

Ian and Lee were delighted that their son James and daughters Anna and Lucy chose to join them in the family business. James can often be spotted behind the wheel of their famous red delivery fleet while Anna and Lucy are both office-based dealing with material sales and assisting Lee with the company accounts.

JSF has now grown to 30 employees and as a whole, pride themselves on continuously offering an efficient, personal no-nonsense service ensuring every order, regardless of size, is treated with the same level of importance and efficiency.
